Dr. Whitney Weiner

Board Certified in Periodontics & Dental Implants

Dr. Weiner was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  In 2001, she was awarded a full academic scholarship to The Colorado College where she graduated with honors. Dr. Weiner was accepted early to the prestigious University of Iowa College of Dentistry. At Iowa, Dr. Weiner received several awards for excellence in research, practice management, oral pathology, and leadership, and was the sole recipient of a scholarship for outstanding achievement in periodontics.

Following dental school, Dr. Weiner spent three years training in the post-graduate periodontics program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and in 2013 was awarded a specialty certification in periodontics. During her periodontal residency she earned her master’s degree in Oral Sciences and her research evaluating gene expression and inflammation in aggressive periodontitis has been recognized at the national level.  Following residency, Dr. Weiner’s husband, Eliot, was offered the opportunity to manage a steel business in Wollongong, Australia so they made the move “down under.”  While in Australia, Dr. Weiner spent two years working as the sole periodontist in three multi-specialist practices.

In early 2015, Dr. Weiner and her husband returned home to Birmingham, Michigan to raise their son, Jake, now three years old.  Dr. Weiner worked in a boutique periodontal specialty office in Birmingham until 2017, but she came to miss the team approach to dentistry provided by group dental care.  It was at this point she began to search for the opportunity to join a dental practice that was compatible with her core professional values – a focus on comprehensive dental care with a firm and clear commitment to patient health and wellness.

To keep up with the latest advances in periodontology and dental implant therapy, Dr. Weiner attends several regional and national professional meetings each year.   Dr. Weiner has lectured nationally and internationally on the Oral-Systemic Link (the connection between dental disease and overall health) and several aspects of Periodontology and Implantology.  The knowledge gained from attending and lecturing at conferences like these allows Dr. Weiner and her team to be at the forefront of periodontal practice and deliver the most advanced treatments to their patients.

In 2016, Dr. Weiner was honored as one of the “Top 25 Women in Dentistry” by Dental Product Report and named the “Most Interesting Person in Dentistry” for February by Curasan.com.  In 2017, Incisal Edge named her in their “40 under 40” young rising dental stars in the nation.

In recognition of her accomplishments in implant dentistry, in 2016 Dr. Weiner was selected for membership to DENTSPLY Implants’ PEERS North America, an exclusive group of key opinion leaders and experts in the field of implant dentistry – there are less than 100 experts in this elite group throughout North America.  Dr. Weiner has been voted a “Top Dentist” by a group of her peers in Hour Magazine every year since moving to the metro Detroit area. Only a handful of periodontists have received this honor.  Dr. Weiner is a board-certified periodontist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.  She believes in a patient-centered approach to periodontal care.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

I love spending time with my husband Eliot, our three-year-old son, Jake, and our rescue dog Molly.  We just welcomed our second son, Max, on September 2nd so things are pretty busy in our home!  We are loving our new normal as a family of five.

I’m also a qualified professional ski instructor – although I still had to be rescued from an avalanche by Eliot a few years ago!  I must enjoy danger because I’ve also been swimming with great white sharks!

Personal motto?

What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?  Go do it.
